I began day dreaming about creating my own Art School many years ago while teaching Visual Arts classes to 160 children a day at some large schools situated in inner city Melbourne. Wondering whether or not it would be possible to interweave my extensive experience as an arts facilitator to light up the creative imaginations of children on the Sunshine Coast.
When Toni Eggleston asked me if I would like to collaborate with Steven Street Gallery in Yandina to launch Art School... I felt like the time must be right!.
Art School will begin in Term 2, 2022 on Tuesday afternoons starting at 3.30pm, from the Coolum Hearts shed. Catering for ages 7 - 13 years of age.
These after school art classes will be designed to support children's creative curiosity, in which they will learn art techniques while using a large variety of art materials to make unique works of art. Mindfulness, experimentation and playfulness are really important skills to promote when teaching young artists. Supporting children to let go of the the desire to be 'perfect' and that making 'your own mark' and 'artistic style' enables the growth of the individual artist.
Tuesday afternoon art classes at Art School in Coolum are the beginning of a series of classes that we hope will pop up in different locations around the Sunshine Coast in the months to come.
